A beautiful smile is nowadays a requisite of a successful person's image and his/her self-confidence. After all, we prepossess others with our smile, the people with healthy straight teeth are subconsciously treated with more trust and respect than inhibited persons who cover their mouth by hand feeling shy because of imperfect teeth. A beautiful confident smile may become a pass-ticket and one of the ways to success for you and your children both in business, career and in personal life. Many people are embarrassed to smile broadly for various reasons, but in most cases the reasons are uneven teeth and strongly protruding canine teeth. Uneven teeth and malocclusion may cause the development of various psychological problems and inhibition.
Orthodontics is a branch of dentistry aiming at treatment of various pathologies of occlusion, teeth straightening techniques, as well as prevention of the teeth malalignment. 90% of people have malocclusion and over 50% of them need mandatory orthodontic treatment, and not only for aesthetic reasons. Many people, who undergo a course of treatment at a professional orthodontist, acquire not only beautiful straight teeth, but also softer and more attractive face features due to the changed occlusion!
Correction of occlusion
Correction of occlusion causes some discomfort in the adaptation period of 7-14 days. The braces do not damage the tooth enamel but require thorough individual hygiene and careful attitude, as well as adherence to all the recommendations of the orthodontist. Psychological preparation of the patient and preventive care of the dental caries is conducted before the orthodontic treatment (teaching individual hygiene rules and stopping of all the affected teeth).
Correct occlusion and even teeth is a precondition of dental health and self-investment. Even teeth are first of all healthy teeth. If a person has often a dental caries, quickly wearing-off teeth, gingival diseases and pains in the facial and neck muscles, they rare connect it with malocclusion. In fact, malocclusion is not only an imperfect appearance of teeth, but also an increased risk of appearing serious oral cavity and maxillo-temporal joint diseases.
It is well-known that teeth alignment is easier to perform in childhood and adolescence. Modern braces, which have steadily expelled the traditional dental plates, allow to correct the occlusion of the people of all ages.

Reasons of dentoalveolar anomalies.
Most of the dentoalveolar anomalies are inherited, however some have an acquired character. Genetically caused problems include overcrowding, gaps between teeth, extra teeth, absence of immature teeth, mismatch of the sizes of teeth and dental arches, jaws and facial skeleton proportions, as well as many other anomalies.
The acquired patologies can be developed as a result of trauma (accidents), bad habits (thumb or passy sucking), upper airway obstructions (enlarged tonsils and adenoids), caries lesions (early removal of milk teeth) and other reasons.
Types of braces.
Braces are divided into metallic and aesthetic and can be fixed on the outer or inner (lingual) surfaces of teeth. Metallic braces are made of special biocompatible alloys. There are also hypoallergenic nickel-free braces. Sapphire and ceramic braces are more commonly used from among the aesthetic ones.
Also, braces have a different formula (preset parameters), on which the tooth movement depends. These data should be mastered by the orthodontist, one of the main objectives of whom is a correct selection of the device for each patient individually, to obtain the optimal treatment result.
How important is the orthodontic treatment?
Dentition anomalies occur with every second child and with 30% of people of other ages. Very often, our patients ask questions: whether it is necessary to correct the "wrong" growing teeth, if it does not disturb too much, what it should be done for, at what age it is better to start treatment. It is difficult to answer these questions definitely, since not only aesthetics suffers in this case, but also the incorrect position of the teeth causes malfunction of the entire dentofacial system and development of gingival diseases, their bleeding, teeth abrasion, pain and clicking in the joints, habitual cheek and lip biting. Very often, people do not associate these problems with the position of teeth and jaws, while in fact the reason of their appearance is orthodontic.
In most cases orthodontic treatment aims at improving the aesthetics. The value of an attractive smile is undeniable, it provides a pro-active attitude and enhances self-confidence. Human self-esteem often increases after orthodontic treatment, since proportions of teeth, soft tissues and face improve significantly. A beautiful smile can impact on the social success and career growth, as well as improve the overall attitude to life.
Orthodontic treatment duration.
The active period of treatment with orthodontic devices may last from several months to three years. Sometimes, treatment in two stages is indicated: in a mixed and permanent dentition.
How painful is orthodontic treatment?
Most people experience some discomfort at the beginning of treatment (adaptation period) and/or after the device activation within several days. Pain feelings can be killed by taking analgesics, individually prescribed by the doctor. Generally, orthodontic discomfort is insignificant and not long.
Orthodontic devices operation peciliarities.
During orthodontic treatment the patient should limit the use of hard, crunchy and sticky products, such as: caramel, chewing gum, toffees, popcorn, very solid products (dried biscuits) and ice, since they may damage the device and greatly increase the duration of treatment.
Keeping the teeth and orthodontic devices clean during treatment is of paramount importance and necessary to obtain a good treatment result. Proper dental care domiciliary does not rule out a trip to the hygienist for professional hygiene measures.
